I remember when I joined my first MLM. It was in the early year of 2006. I was looking for a new source of income for my wife and our new baby boy. I desperately needed the money and I had very little time to work another job. You see I was in the active duty Air Force for six years making very little money. With a new child and a stay at home wife I was hurting for some extra cash. Depression was kicking my butt.I went from doing surveys online, to eBay (where I was scammed out of $1200) and pretty much anything else I could get my hands on (not drugs). I even submitted an invention of mine that I came up with over the years which still ended up costing me more money. That's still in the works.
As I was doing surveys I noticed an ad on one of the survey websites telling me that I could make a lot of money while putting in very little effort. Well needless to say this was right up my alley. Without hesitation I got the money together buy pawning some unused things of mine and scrounging for whatever change that I could find. I contacted the person on the ad and told them that I have the money and I am ready to join. Was I? I was so excited about making easy money that I jumped right into a company that I had no idea about and had not done any research on. I thought that I was going to be rich! Little did I know right?
When I started talking to my sponsor about the company and making money I was constantly being told to buy the products and watch the training videos, buy the products and watch the training videos. Any of this sounds familiar? So I buy the products and I watch the videos and I buy the products... You get the point. Anyway, after doing this for about a month I started to receive something that I did not expect to receive in the beginning; a BIG FAT HEADACHE! I did not make a dime off of this company. There was no duplicatable method to be used, there was no real communication between my sponsor and I, and most importantly of all there was no MONEY! I wanted to scream, there I was trying to do something honest for me and my family and not a dime. All I had was some nasty powder, some beans, lotions and crap and a big empty account. It was the worst feeling that I had ever had. I thought to myself "YOU IDIOT", you just spent all of your money on a company that does not even show you a proper way of selling your product and now you have to go tell your loving wife that this selling thing is not working. I thank God to this day that she did not leave me. Needless to say after my year end subscription I did not even think about renewing my account.
I did not try another MLM for about 2 1/2 years later. Now I am back in the MLM business getting customers and I have not even been in the company for a month. How does this happen? I did my research on the company first of all. I analyzed everything, from the comp plan, to who founded the company and who endorses it. Most importantly of all, I found a mentor. If you do not find a mentor then you can forget it. Just go give your money to the homeless or something; at least they can use it more than some of these "opportunity" companies. Also do your research. Don't do what I did years back and dive right in head first. I guarantee that you will get frustrated in your first few months if not the first and that you will, WILL go broke.
When I use to do carpentry work with my dad he would always tell me "measure twice and cut once". This saying easily applies to joining an MLM or any company. Research as much as you can on the company and be sure that the company is a good one then join. Many of these companies are set up to give us false hope and nothing more while there are legit companies out there that actually do what they say they will do. This is why researching the company before you join is so important. Here is some advice, be weary of companies that promote "make hundreds of thousands in one month" or "get 50,000 prospects in one month". If they say anything like this then ask that person to prove it. If they cannot then there you go. Other than that I have nothing more to say. I hope this little story and bit of information helps you in your next or current venture. I wish you the best of luck.
