My Dad Would Have Been Great in Network Marketing

I'd like to tell you about someone who was very special in my life.

People ask me a lot why we do mentoring for free. They want to know what my angle is. Some of them really put time into figuring out how I'm going to take advantage of them.

Let me tell you a story.

I was a kid. Maybe 10 years old. My dad heard about a basketball court in a local churchyard where the old backboard & basket were in really bad shape.

Dad couldn't buy a backboard. So he went to the lumberyard and bought a 3/4" piece of plywood. He bolted it together, made a nice big, thick backboard, painted it white, put a basketball hoop on it, backed up his pick-up truck.

And he's standing there up in the bed of the pick-up, on a Saturday, putting this backboard up - when the preacher drives up.

The preacher asks, "What are you doing?"

Dad says, "I'm putting up a backboard."

Preacher: "Well, I don't know YOU!"

Dad: "No."

Preacher: "Well, why're you doing it?"

I'll never forget that. Now here's a man, a pastor, a man who leads a congregation, and he couldn't understand why my dad was doing that. Wow! I sure wouldn't want that pastor leading ME!

He couldn't figure that one out.

That's The Kind of Stuff My Dad Did All The Time!

I'm so thankful that I learned from him and just took it right over to network marketing.

My father had a garage in Cleveland, Ohio. He had a customer who used to come in, to buy gasoline from my dad. Dad serviced his car, a '57 Chevy. It had about 200,000 miles on it, had a bad motor, needed a valve job.

The guy's name was Ernie. He came into the shop one day and told my dad, "My wife and I & our 2 kids are moving to Florida. Can you check out my car, see if it'll make it?"

Dad said, "That car won't make it around the block."

Ernie says, "I don't have any money."

And all Dad knew was, this man bought gas from him. Didn't know him from Adam.

At the time, my Dad was feeding 5 children, 5 boys. Anyway, Dad did a valve job on that 6-cylinder Chevrolet engine. He put in new belts & hoses, got it in perfect shape, so it would make it to Florida.

And Ernie told my father, "Frank, when I get to Florida, and I get some money ahead, I'll send it to you."

And he did. It was about a year, but Ernie sent Dad the money. He had moved to Florida, and he started building homes. That was back in what they called the "5990s". You got a lot, a new home with a garage for $5,995. They were called the "5990s". And Ernie became one of the biggest homebuilders in Florida.

My mother had bad health, a bad heart. The doctor said the best thing for her would be to get out of Ohio and move to a warmer climate. Dad said, "How about Florida?"

Well, Ernie Russaw had invited my dad to come down there. Dad & mom went down for a vacation, and when I was 6, in 1959, we moved to Florida.

Diaster - Then a Miracle - In Ohio -

My father used to race stock cars. Work was tough to get in Florida, and after a few years there, my dad went back to Ohio to work in a garage he had. His old stock car buddies convinced him to build them some engines.

My dad built the engines, and his buddy went to the track. He set a new track record with the motor my dad built. My dad was setting the timing on the race car, and you have to rev the engine up to do it. You can't use the timing light, because it has a big cam in it.

So the car was idling, and Dad revved the engine a couple times. This was a standard shift with a pressure plate, and the pressure plate had a crack in it. It exploded, came out through the bell housing, hit my dad in the left leg. And it cut his left leg almost completely off.¬

It severed the bone, crushed the bone. Five inches of the bone was missing. Only thing holding his leg on was the muscle in the back.

So they got him on a stretcher and took him to the hospital. The doctor decided to snip the muscle in the back, amputate the leg.

And my father said, "No. You can't do that. I've got 5 children to support. If you cut my leg off, you may as well shoot me."

The doctor said, "Frank, there's no other way."

And Dad said, "Go to the track, find the bone, find the pieces, put that leg together, and it will heal. I believe it will heal."

So they got all those crushed pieces of bone, all the fragments they could find. They put the leg together, and they worked to make it the same length as the other one. they put the bone fragments in, sewed it up, put it in a cast - and it healed perfectly.

My father wore a brace for about 3 years. He could still dance with the brace on. He never walked with a limp. You never would have known he had a bad leg.

And Then, a Miracle In Florida!

We made a trip up to Ohio to stay with Dad. I worked several months on a farm to support the family. The labor I did paid for the rent and groceries.

And when we finally got moved back to Florida, my dad needed a garage. He had no money to put down for it, no way to pay. But Ernie built my dad a garage, fully equipped, and my dad ran that garage the rest of his life. Ernie paid my dad back for getting him started on his own trip to Florida.

Was that a stretch for my dad to do a valve job on that '57 Chevy? Yeah. We kids probably all ate beans for a few days. But he did it, because that's who my dad was.

People wonder why Linda & I do mentoring for free. I get asked all the time why I spend 15 hours a week doing conference calls for any network marketer, no matter what company they're in, for free.

And the answer is simple. It's the right thing to do. It's what my dad would have done. I loved that man, and he was a shining example of how to live your life. He would have been GREAT in network marketing!

The Fall of a Leader

06/28/10

When a great leader falls because of a lack of integrity, it is
very painful for all involved. Tearing another person down to
build yourself up, only leads to a false impression of yourself.

When someone is tearing others down in front of You this is
a guarantee they will do the same to You behind Your back.
Ultimately you will crash and burn from your lack of character.

The question is:

Would You Want This Person As Your Sponsor ?

Life can give us challenges in many areas of our life. How we
handle those challenges ourselves and who helps us, can
determine our success or failure. Loyalty to do the right thing
enters into all decisions. Friendships built on loyalty and trust
are like support beams for a foundation.

A foundation is the beginning. This applies to your marriage,
your friendships, your home and your business. If you build
them correctly, they will sustain you your lifetime. If you
build carelessly everything will crumble around you.

Leaders are built. Day by day, Lesson by lesson. When a
leader chooses to fall, they sacrifice their integrity, their
honor and their character.

If after knowing the facts and fully utilizing their "critical
thinking skills" when someone decides to leave Your Team
please wish them all the best.

Excerpt from "Launching a Leadership Revolution"
Foundational Leadership Quality: Honorable

Integrity can be considered as the condition of "not doing
what's wrong." Character can be defined as doing the right
things, for the mere reason that it is the right thing, even if
that thing is difficult and unpopular.

The two sewn together make honor. Author Jeff O'Leary,
in The Centurion Principles, writes, " 'Honor' encompasses
the virtues of integrity and honesty, self-denial, loyalty, and
a servant's humility to those in authority above as well as a
just and merciful heart to those below."

Honor is such a rarely used word in our times that it seems
a little old-fashioned. But living a life of integrity and character
is timeless and, for a leader, absolutely necessary. It's about
choices, and a person's choices in life follow him to the grave.

Is this to say that a person needs to be perfect to become a
leader? Of course not. Perfection in this life is not possible,
and we, the authors, are certainly not exceptions. However,
a leader must strive continually toward perfection even though
she knows she can never exactly attain it.

It is a question of the heart. The most effective leaders through
out history have led with their hearts, in trust, and with honor.
If a leader cuts corners, misuses people, or misrepresents, the
truth, a time bomb begins ticking. Someday, somewhere, the
bomb will go off. It is obvious in our times only too often: public
figures at the pinnacles of power and fame crash and burn in
the cloud of self-inflicted shame. From political scandals to
high-profile corporate frauds, these calamities are brought
on by a lack of honor in the leadership.

"Human happiness and moral duty are inseparably connected."

The difference between leaders we revile and those we praise
is their individual level of honor. In fact, honor is the force that
holds a leader's hunger in check.

Without honor, hunger runs rampant and ultimately serves
only selfish interests. Honor is the component that makes
hunger productive for the leader's fellow man. In fact, what
we are basically describing here is another "old-fashioned"
word: duty.

George Washington said of duty, "Human happiness and
moral duty are inseparably connected." So leadership is
spawned by hunger and held in check by honor.

Under that combination, leaders will find happiness in the
fulfillment of their duty to others. It has been said that the
character of a man is the only thing that will walk back
from the grave into the hearts of the people who knew him.

That is the legacy of a leader. The words a leader say and
the walk a leader walks must match. As the saying goes,
"Your word is your worth and your worth is your word."

Andy Stanley, author of The Next Generation Leader, says,
"To become a leader worth following you must give time and
attention to the inner man.

To leave a legacy that goes beyond accomplishment alone,
a leader must devote himself to matters of the heart."
Character is developed in the valleys and the peaks of life,
enabling a person to overcome obstacles and deal with
success.

Abraham Lincoln observed, "Nearly all men can handle
adversity, but if you really want to test a man's character -
give him power." Character connects a person to what is
right and true.

If reputation is what others think of you, then character is
what God knows about you. This concept of honor is so
important to a leader because people will follow a leader
only as far as they feel they can trust him.

People will not follow a leader they can't trust. According
to R. Ruth Barton, "We set young leaders up for a fall if
we encourage them to envision what they can do before
they consider the kind of person they should be.

" Warren Bennis tells us, "In the leadership arena,
character counts. I am not saying this casually, of studies,
observations, and interviews with leaders and with the
people near them.... I've never seen a person derailed
from [leadership] positions for lack of technical competence.

But I've seen lots of people derailed for lack of judgment
and character." And, as Heraclitus said, "Man's character
is his fate." Finally, it should be remembered that a major
component of honor is personal courage.

Without the courage to do what's right because it's right,
regardless of ramifications to self, one is not truly worthy
to be called a leader.

When people don't "Believe" they deserve Success they
will self destruct every time.... This is the reason we tell
everyone we meet to "Participate" in the 30 Day Mental
Cleanse if You want to own Your life.

To Make More, You Have to Become More

Patti Blevins
MLM Success Story

Iowa - When someone called me about "Success In 10 Steps", I didn't even remember downloading the ebook. He kept leaving voicemail messages. I groaned ... I wasn't looking for something new. I was in my second network marketing company in ten years and I was not open to anything else.

But ... I was curious why he would continue to call to offer his "free mentoring and coaching". I finally read the ebook and got a new perspective. It explained why my previous 10 years weren't close to the success I had dreamed of.

Ten years ago, I resigned my 25 year career with the federal government ... to do network marketing full-time. My husband and I believed it would fall into place better if I committed to our business full time. Resigning was a financial risk. I REALLY was motivated to be successful.

I loved working from home. But it was tough to get friends and family to opportunity meetings. My sponsor didn't help. Frustration built. More time, more money. Home meetings after my husband got off work every night. Finally, we couldn't justify the time and expense any longer, so we quit.

Back to work as a church secretary ... and the pastor was an MLM distributor. Of course, they had perfect products that I quickly fell in love with. But, when I had to make a list of my friends and family ... again ... the sick feeling in my stomach should have been a clue.

They said to talk to everybody you run into about your business. I hated that. There wasn't an ounce of "salesman" in me. I hated to go shopping or to church, because I was supposed to move every conversation toward my product.

I resigned the church secretary position to work my network marketing business full time. The training in this company was more like listening to sermons versus the 'rah-rah' in the last company. But I was stressed out. I loved the products, I loved the people, I loved the company ... WHY no success? My upline said I needed to do more, talk to more people!

Now ... when I FINALLY took the time to read "Success In 10 Steps", my eyes were opened. I got on the training calls, and I felt like I finally had the cement block off my back. It was a goldmine of free training with no talk about any specific company or product.

I had been working on personal growth for over 20 years ... I had over 300 self-help books, highlighted, notes in the margins, some falling apart from being read so much. So, I loved the Mental Cleanse calls. The Mentoring For Free Mastermind is a group of supportive, encouraging, loving people who would never criticize or judge. It was a safe place, week after week after week.

I now love to share the Mentoring For Free education with other struggling network marketers. I've spoken to hundreds of people who have downloaded "Success In 10 Steps". When I ask if they are attempting to create an income from home ... they ALL say "yes". That is what you call a "targeted lead". I generated the lead, who already believes in network marketing. Perfect!

How can I help them? Whatever resource they need, they can probably get it in MentoringForFree. And if and when we are meant to be business partners, it will be for a lifetime. We will have built a relationship by then.

Michael says that "to make more, you have to become more!" That's what Mentoring For Free is all about.

We Made Just About Every Mistake Possible!

Bob & Anna Bassett
MLM Success Story

Ontario - We started our network marketing career in 1999. Over the next seven years, we made just about every mistake possible!

We worked five long years in a "sponsor monster" money swap company with a pay plan so poor that we ended up with a remortgaged house, maxed out credit cards and a bad case of the "What's Wrong With Me's?".

We spent thousands of dollars buying useless leads and even bought ourselves twice!

We travelled thousands of miles and even walked on fire! Our feet got warmer but our check stayed the same.

We stumbled into an illegal pyramid which cost us thousands more. We tried a Ponzi scheme before we knew what the word meant. Ten thousand more went to a mentoring program scam which taught us how to earn $21 split three ways!

The flags were all there, but they weren't red enough.

In 2006, we read Success in Ten Steps and started to pay serious attention to the Mentoring For Free system.

Our business turned around 180 degrees immediately.

We've learned

  1. How to spot personalities and build an instant relationship with them
  2. How to evaluate MLM compensation plans and contracts written by company lawyers
  3. Most of all - the 5 criteria you must evaluate to decide whether a company has good profit potential or not

It's a sad fact that well over 95% of networkers are failing, but as Michael says, "It's not your fault!"

If you'd like to find the support you need for the success you deserve, join us at Mentoring For Free.

You'll be amazed at how just a few hours of free training will open your eyes and help you avoid years of failure and frustration!

The Pitcher Can't Win A Game By Himself

Kaye Stephens
MLM Success Story

New Jersey - I am "LUCKY". You might ask why I think that about myself. All of my life things have come to me easily until about 12 years ago when I joined my first M-L-M. I loved the concept immediately, but there was something lacking, I just couldn't identify what it was.

I am a huge baseball fan. In baseball, you need a team. Funny how the pitcher can't win a game by himself. He needs the catcher, the infield and the outfielders. There are 9 players on the team. Take away one player and you can't even play the game. Well, that is one of the important things that was missing. A TEAM.

At Mentoring For Free we have a TEAM that believe in you until you believe in yourself. No matter what company you are promoting, the team at Mentoring for Free will help you.

The second thing I was missing was ongoing training. Several days a week, Mentoring For Free has live interactive training that creates LEADERS. I knew I was a leader but you can't ride a bicycle without practice and interactive training. I am so grateful for the ongoing training that has given me the TOOLS to "Own My Life".

The third thing that was missing was "Mental Cleanse" where you learn "How to think" not "What to think". This training program gives you the confidence and the joy to share with other people and help them to become the people that they are meant to be.

I just want to thank Michael and Linda Dlouhy and the rest of the Mentoring For Free team for this wonderful program that is changing the world of MLM one life at a time.

Network Marketing is like farming

Cindy Loewen
MLM Success Story

Manitoba - Rey and I have been married 30 years. We are grain farmers in southern Manitoba, Canada. We love to spend time with our 3 wonderful kids: Chad (about to be married to Kelsey), Derek and Janessa. We love travelling, boating, cycling, camping, and taking cruises.

We owned a trucking company for 13 years. I've been a bank teller for 10 years.

In 2004 and 2005 we had a crop failure. It had been too wet to even put seed in the ground. No seed, no harvest. In the winters of 2004 and 2005, Rey went long distance trucking to pay the bills. I needed to make extra money, but didn't want to work the 9-5. I wanted to work flexible hours, be home with the kids, attend their activities, take holidays when we wanted, and be available on the farm.

I saw a newspaper ad: "Make $5000.00/month returning phone calls." I love talking on the phone. $5000.00 a month was great. Sounded easy. That is the day my network marketing began.

But guess what? It wasn't that easy. Network Marketing is like farming. You have to seed before you harvest. It takes time for that seed to grow. But with cultivation, care, rain, and sunshine there will be a harvest.

I joined several companies, spent a lot of money on leads and advertising. I had downloaded the ebook "Success in 10 Steps", in March 2006, but never read it. I struggled for a year. I didn't know how to train people who joined me. I didn't know how to mentor, motivate or lead a team.

I read the Mentoring For Free website. I didn't believe Michael Dlouhy would really mentor me, that he would teach me and my downline to do this business. In March 2007, I finally read "Success in 10 Steps", and went on my first conference call. It clicked. I knew I had found a mentor and a proven, duplicatable system, step-by-step instructions that anyone can do.

I learned how to evaluate a company, how to be a critical thinker, how to generate my own leads for free, how to call leads, how and where to advertise, personal development, how to identify my prospects by personality.

Best of all, Mentoring for Free is a network marketing family, a safe place where people open up and share their struggles & their past, with no judgment from anyone. When I joined, I didn't believe in myself. When Michael said he'd believe in me until I believed in myself, it gave me hope that I could be successful.

To have the harvest I want in MLM, I needed to get the weeds out of my mind. That negataivity and low self-esteen had to go. I learned to paint new pictures in my mind, of who I want to be, and what success looks like to me. Now I speak my future into reality. It takes focus and persistence and faith. You have to believe it before you can see it. I know that if you plant corn, you will harvest corn. And if you plant good seeds in your mind by reading good books and getting together with like-minded positive people, then you will reap a great harvest.

Network Marketing is not about the money - it's about people. Build people and then the people will build the business. Even if we would never make any money in this businesses, we're growing and becoming the people we were meant to be, and we're helping others grow into leaders.

We Couldn't Duplicate

Walter & Julie Reade
MLM Success Story

Wisconsin - Julie and I were married in college. For seven years we lived broke and happy while we finished our undergraduate and then graduate programs. I entered the corporate world, where the money was good and the work was fast-paced.

Over time, though, I noticed two trends. First, the stress and time commitment grew faster than the salary. Worse, I started to see hard-working productive people down-sized when they were too young to retire, but old enough so it was tough to find new employment.

The Time Was Right

Then an old friend moved near where I was working. We had dinner, and he told me about a network marketing company with some impressive technology.

For the first 15 years of marriage, Julie and I avoided network marketing. We had watched family members who had joined a well-known MLM company. They were taught to live beyond their means (fake it 'til you make it), use deceitful recruiting practices, and shun anyone who didn't join their business. After three years of hard work, all they had to show for it was massive debt.

As my friend talked about this company, my natural inclination would have been to blow it off. But the combination of job stress and concern had me open to an alternative. I joined the company on the spot.

We Couldn't Duplicate

Julie and I started building our business. With significant time, travel, expense, and brute force, we started sponsoring people and making a check. But we quickly hit a wall. The people we sponsored could not duplicate our results. We were left with a largely inactive organization.

After we became completely burned out, we joined a different company, more geared towards building on the phone and internet. We made some progress, but it wasn't until we joined Mentoring for Free and learned the skills needed to build a business that our organization really took off.

It's About the System

The reason for the growth in our organization was simple and obvious. We finally had a turn-key SYSTEM that we could teach others to use to grow THEIR organizations. For the first time, the growth of our organization wasn't about us. It was about the SYSTEM.

This is truly significant. Mentoring for Free allows us and others on our team to build our business without having to change who we are. The system is flexible. Anyone can use it and tailor it to their strengths. This is what made network marketing a truly enjoyable experience, rather than drudgery. I have my strengths. Julie has hers. We both use Mentoring for Free successfully.

We enjoy improving our skills. We love helping others learn to build their business. That's the other remarkable thing about Mentoring for Free. We used to view network marketers in other companies as competitors. Now, we absolutely enjoy helping any distributor in any company learn the skills they need to become successful.

What's Next?

Mentoring for Free is the only organization I know of that provides both the foundation for a successful network marketing career as well as the skills required to build on that foundation. Having a coach and mentor take Julie and me by the hand and walk us through the process has been a rewarding experience. Now we are giving back, and we're having more fun than ever.
