Persistence, it's the one word that can describe my Success Story. Thinking back to when I started looking to create an additional income takes me back to my teenage years. I always dreamed of building an empire that would pay my children's children. What was missing for almost 20 years was a plan. The statement: "Failing to plan is planning to fail" describes that time period in my life.

Overcoming Obstacles

In 2003 I decided to see what all the fuss was about making millions on the internet. I watched a few informercials and got a few websites out of the opportunity section of some magazines and I was off on my journey to discover the end of the internet!

Everything I looked at made my stomach crawl. Nothing seemed legit or legal. I finally came across a free program and I spent 6 months being frustrated. In those 6 months I had no contact, other than emails, with any of my upline. I finally headed back out on to the internet to find a new opportunity. I spent almost 2 years with my next adventure. I had an awesome direct upline that had joined 1 month before me and we clicked right away. There would still be many hurdles for us to jump over.

I was constantly scratching my head trying to figure out why the upline was so diligent in making it so difficult for us. They constantly held back information, they played the favorites game, they played people off of each other and they manipulated downlines. My team was growing and the money was trickling in, but I was really struggling.

Then through advertising, I came across a sweet lady who asked if I had ever read "Success in 10 Steps"? I had seen the ads for it all over the internet but I kept passing it over. I finally decided to download the book based on this sweet lady's recommendation.

A month passed and I finally decided to read the ebook. After being beaten up and kicked around, I was skeptical. But I could not put the book down. I immediately felt the relief. My LACK of Success was NOT my Fault. WOW!

I called the lady who had recommended the ebook. I jumped on the weekly training calls and when I heard how easy it was to talk to people about the ebook, I knew I had found the system and training that could grow my business.

With the ebook and Michael and 10+ hours of training a week, how could we not have Success? It gave us a proven duplicatable system to build our business. We have sponsored a few who have sponsored a few, and so on, and so on. I have the support of Michael Dlouhy and the dynamic team at Mentoring For Free who share information and offer guidance. Anne and I thank them from the bottom of our hearts!

Anne and I are solid users of the MFF system and have been using it for 3 years. It is as simple as 1,2,3. Without MFF and its duplication we never would have reached Diamond in our Company or been able to help others reach Diamond as well.

Wisconsin - I've been lucky most of my life to have had above average success at most things. But after a few years of network marketing, I was frustrated that my success was not being duplicated by others I introduced to the business.

I began to doubt my choice.

After 4 years in the Air Force in the early 1970's, I've been self employed most of my life. I've been a professional dog trainer and hunting guide, dabbled briefly in the real estate industry, and had a successful insurance and financial planning business ... which taught me the power of residual income.

Although I liked real estate, my wife and children didn't appreciate my 70-80 hr, 7 day-a-week work schedule. Eventually I realized that even though I was "successful", I still woke up unemployed every morning.

Our income totally depended on me getting out every day and selling.

By the way ... before real estate, I would never have thought of myself as a "sales type". I was shy, not comfortable in crowds or talking with strangers.

Like Most People In The World ... I HATE To Be Sold!

Years ago, a move back to Wisconsin from Washington state had us looking for a home. We ran into some "bad apple" real estate agents. They made it obvious their only interest was selling us a home to earn a commission.

So I thought to myself, "Boy, if these obviously self-interested jerks can make a living doing this ... what would happen if I took a sincere interest in HELPING OTHER PEOPLE find whatever THEY were looking for? I'll bet I could do really well!"

Less than a year later when my job wasn't panning out, that thought came back. When I mentioned it to the people I was working for ...

They Looked At Me Like I Had Three Eyes!

They laughed. They didn't see me as any kind of salesman. They thought I had NO CHANCE for success.

That was all the extra motivation I needed.

The thought of them laughing at me kept me going during the tough times. I'd do anything to put off picking up the phone to make a "cold call" or knocking on the door of a home for sale "by owner". And in the beginning, both literally made my palms sweat.

I got past those difficult times and started having some success by focusing on HELPING OTHER PEOPLE. But the long hours were taking a toll on my wife and small children. So I started looking again.

I ran across a blind ad in our hometown paper that seemed right up my alley. They wanted someone with a sports or teaching background and a strong desire to succeed. I was disappointed when I showed up for the interview to find out it was about selling insurance. I didn't (and still don't) consider myself a "sales type".

But the person I interviewed with, who would be my manager, was a down-to-earth former high school physics teacher. And again I thought to myself, "Well he doesn't seem like the typical 'sales type' either. And if he's having so much success, MAYBE I can too."

And the move put us back closer to old friends and our families. So we gave it a shot.

My Toughest Job Ever

I worked hard for a couple years for one company, then went "independent" to do a better job for my clients. Unfortunately the long hours were tough on my marriage. My wife picked up and left, leaving me as a single parent with two small children.

That day, parenting became my toughest but most rewarding job ever. And it gave me a completely different perspective and total respect for all good mothers and single parents everywhere.

But building a new business while I was raising 2 kids was quite a juggling act.

Eventually in my business I specialized more in employee benefits and group health insurance because it involved more daytime hours. Within 2 years I had a pretty good monthly renewal check coming in. So I took a couple months off to pursue some of my passions. That's when I realized ...

Our System Is SERIOUSLY Screwed-Up!

We go to school for years to get an education to qualify us for a job. Then we slave 30-40 years to get to retirement.

Great. Except we're often too old or in too poor health to do the things we'd really LOVE to do. And many people can't afford to do the things they'd REALLY like to do. Wouldn't it be better to do the things we LOVE, while we're still healthy and capable of doing them?

Fortunately for me, the RESIDUAL INCOME I had coming from my employee benefits and business accounts gave me an option. So in 1984, at the ripe old age of 34, I went into "semi-retirement".

Ten years later I married my current lovely wife. Marcie had a regular job, and wasn't quite sure she liked all the free time I seemed to have. And I didn't think I was making enough for BOTH of us to be "retired." So in 1997 I decided it was time to either revive my semi-dormant retirement & financial planning business or look for other options.

Network Marketing Is the Only Business Model
That Harnesses THREE Powerful Forces

After months of research, checking out business opportunities, franchises, etc., it became obvious to me that network marketing had what I was looking for. It took advantage of 3 powerful forces:

1. Passive residual income
2. Leverage of your time and money, and
3. Geometric growth potential.

Now to find the right company.

I put together a system to analyze all the options. From this, I found a good company that's still in business today. But good coaching and training from my upline was missing.

So I struggled for 18 months. I didn't make any money. In fact, I spent a lot. But I did learn some important lessons. So I decided to apply them with a "better" opportunity.

Within a short time I was having pretty good success with the next young company I joined.

I Became One of Their Top Distributors

But apparently I wasn't doing a very good job of teaching what I had learned, because very few people who joined me ever duplicated my success. Eventually the company dramatically changed the compensation plan and my commission checks got slashed.

I've tried a couple other companies in the meantime and had some moderate success. But the duplication and the retention were not there for the long term success and FREEDOM I was looking for.

Eventually I stumbled across Michael Dlouhy and his mentoring & coaching approach to building people. As a "Green", (learn more about that from the Colors Training) I was skeptical about EVERYTHING Michael said and did. But as I tuned in to various conference calls & coaching sessions, I was amazed at his patience and consistency.

Michael is sincerely interested in HELPING OTHERS. He often talks about "getting things from your head to your heart". And until you do, those words don't mean much. But eventually the "light bulb clicked". And I realized I've come full circle.

My success in previous careers earlier in my life was NOT because I was the greatest salesman on the planet. I never was, never want to be, and never will be. But I focused on HELPING OTHERS.

That's exactly what Michael and members of his Success Team do. And when you get that from your head to your heart, magical things start happening in your business and life.

I still have a lot to learn and a long way to go on my path to personal development and TRUE SUCCESS. But it's great to have a mentor and support TEAM so willing and eager to help.

I've been around network marketing for several years, and have had the privilege to personally meet and work with some of the icons in the industry. But I've never experienced anything remotely close to what this TEAM has going.

MLM Can't Be Done Better!

Indiana --Michael listens. It's amazing that he opens his calls to people from ANY company. He doesn't care what MLM you're with. Everybody else has a secret agenda. Not Michael. No hard sell or, really, ANY kind of sell. He knows that if he just loves you enough and helps you, and if you're decent, you'll see it. And if you're not, he doesn't want you anyway.

I'm Alaskan, a retired nurse. My husband's Canadian. My father came over from Denmark to Alaska. He had a tin mine on the closest point to Russia. Back in the 1950s, the U.S. government bought it as a radar station. We could still go over there and dig for gold or tin. We own the mineral rights.

Running A Network Marketing Company

Walt and I had our own network marketing business in Canada, from 1973 to 1986. Walt believes network marketing is the way to do things. We bought Christian books from many companies and marketed them Tupperware-style.

The parent company was stateside, and they let us take the business to Canada. They had a breakaway compensation plan. When a rep hit a certain leadership level, they broke off. We saw that as a problem. We had to set up our own Canadian corporation anyway, so we dropped that breakaway feature.

Then in 1986, we went to South America to distribute books. We left our business with a distributor. It was amazing to us to give it up, be gone for several years, then come back in 1991 and see the business still going.

In fact, the gentleman now has warehouses in Saskatchewan and Ontario. And the ladies still do home book parties like you'd do home candle parties. Another group puts them in racks and babysits the racks.

Back In The States

There are about 40 Christian publishers. Walt found some we'd worked with before. We rep for 8 or 10 of them as independent contractors. When we travel, I do the MLM nutrition business. Walt sells the books. That way, he can talk to bookstore managers & buyers about his wife's business. It doesn't overlap. I call people from the hotel room. It's a business I can take with me. I like that.

What I really appreciate about my husband is, he's never been shy about leaving the job he's in now and working himself into the next one. A lot of people are insecure. If you have a good job and good income, that's where you should stay. But Walt says, "No, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to go where I want to go." Walt has given 4 states away to another rep. He has 1 state left. Once that's gone, we'll work with Michael full-time.

A few years ago, we attended a "Big Al" conference in Cleveland. As I walked through the doors, here's this guy sitting on the table. Most people sit behind tables. Or they stand by tables. Not this guy. He sits ON the table. And as we walked by, he said some "smart" thing. He said a few things, and I had to reply. That's how I met Michael.

Michael & Linda Truly Care For People

Michael has the right personality. He's Blue, outgoing, tremendous drive. People pick him up and turn him on. We've been with him several years now. We enjoy so much the MLM business and the people and the idea of relationship-building. That's the way it should be.

At the same time, he's Red. So he's able to lead and handle the company well. He comes from a real bad background where he was not loved. He was thrown around as a kid. That affects him today.

And he has the sweetest-balanced wife. They're such a good team. Linda keeps him on course. She can put him straight. Michael is so male. Linda is Yellow. She's what he needs to balance him.

Linda has a horse. She has puppies and kitties and they live on 20 acres. Last time I was there it rained, and they had an alligator. It trucked its way across Florida and found the mudpuddle in their yard. Linda is just right for him and sweet, and then you say, "Of course!" She fits Michael. We really love the two of them. They have 2 great kids. They've raised them well. We pray for them.

Michael listens to people. It's amazing that he opens his calls to people from ANY network marketing company. He just doesn't care what company you're with. Everybody else has a secret agenda. Not Michael. He doesn't do a hard sell or, really, ANY kind of sell. He knows that if he just loves you enough and helps you, and if you're decent, you'll see it. And if you're not, he doesn't want you anyway.

How do you put into words what Michael's training means? It is so exactly what people need. We lack personal-ness in direct sales. You recruit me. Then you go off and do your own thing. Meanwhile, I'm a baby. I have no clue what to do next, and I don't last.

But Michael offers loving & MLM coaching. I get on a call and Michael says, "Oh, Joy, nice to have you on the call tonight. How's your oldest granddaughter? Wasn't she not feeling well?" When I'm loved and accepted, which is what Michael's comment just did to me, my mind's open and my heart's ready, and I'm listening.

Gradually, Gradually, He Loves Them In

All those layers fall off. Nobody else out there does that. You look and see 30 different companies represented on Michael's late-night Saturday call or on some of the leads calls. Either they figure it out, or they figure out that what they have is not what they want. So they come around. Michael didn't really do anything, but just let them listen. It couldn't be done better.

A lot of people have never been in a situation with no boss to tell them what to do and when to do it. Now they're on their own, and it's "How do I do this?" "Where do I get my money?" "What does it cost?" "How can I be sure of this & that?"

All these insecure questions. And then you dial Michael up, and there he is. He's a big guy, he's above me, but he'll still talk to me. He has time for you. And if the calls you make are silly … some of the brave people call their prospects online, and they'll talk to them themselves. That is REALLY brave. Because when they get off, the whole group gets to say, "OK. What did you see?"

And people on the call tell you what they think. But it's usually good for the person. You build them up and send them on. Michael just handles the public very, very well. He's good with everybody. If he gets a pushy, awful person, he still handles them well.

When he tells you to build people, and then people will build your business, it's just perfect.

In the past, some scoundrel MLM companies have betrayed their own reps. They promised the dream of early retirement. So you worked like crazy and built a huge organization and retired. The company looked at that and said, "Hey! This guy quit working. He can't get away with that!" And they changed their compensation plan to cut you out of it.

So Michael teaches you to sell prospects on YOURSELF, not on a company or product. When he tells you this stuff, it comes from him with fire, and it is great. Michael has a system to help you build close relationships and build loyalty and build a mob of people committed to YOU, not to some network marketing company. That way, they will follow YOU. It's a much easier way to recruit.

And that means 2 things. When good people are loyal to YOU, those 600 other companies out there trying to recruit them don't stand a chance. And if the worst happens and your own company betrays you, they don't just lose you. They lose your entire group. You just move on to a better situation.

Michael has been there and done that. His mission is to build people and to protect them from being hurt. No one else out there does it better.

From Florida To Tennessee ... Through Oklahoma?

I was an engineer for Phillips Petroleum for 14 years. Then I worked on my own for 10 years, consulting. That was more fun because I worked from home. I'd get up, walk upstairs to the computer, & start taking phone calls about 9 am.

That was freedom. Work my own hours. Home with my family. No boss. If I wanted to go somewhere, I did. I could just do what I wanted. I've always been a free spirit.

My wife was home-schooling our son. I helped. For awhile, it seemed I only left home to go to Mailboxes, Etc. for my mail, and to help my son do his afternoon paper route. We'd walk the route in the summertime, get some exercise.

But the consulting slowed down. I went to work for Conoco. They merged with Phillips. So I've come full circle, with Conoco-Phillips.

Ever since I read "Think and Grow Rich" in 1979, I've had the entrepreneur bug. I started with Prepaid Legal in 1983, in Texas. It was new. If you signed up, you then had to go to your attorney and get them to agree to be part of Prepaid Legal. Tough sell. Not being trained in sales, I passed on it.

In 1996, I again looked at network marketing with weight-loss product. Advertised the willies out of it.

I mailed a brochure to every local home. Made my own infomercial, which moved a lot of product. I put signs on street corners until the city said to take them down. Sold a lot of product THAT weekend. These ideas brought in a lot of regular customers.

I made $1,500 to $2,000 a month just on product sales … not counting what my recruits did.

From Florida To Tennessee ... Through Oklahoma?

Delivery was time-consuming. But I found out that once people lost weight, they wanted other nutritional products.

So I joined a nutritional product MLM and sold those products to my customers. On their conference calls, I met Michael. We co-hosted their call, feeding off each, back & forth. We clicked.

We did those calls for a year, then didn't touch base for 6 or 8 months. Michael called one day in '98 or '99 and came through Oklahoma on his way from Florida to Tennessee! We've worked together ever since, on a lot of different projects.

Michael really cares. He has everyone's best interest at heart. He wants to help people have success in network marketing. He wants to build strong relationships because he knows those people will work with him and be with him for life.

The key to network marketing is to build relationships. It's NOT about getting somebody into your deal, like everybody else tries to do. The key is working with them to help build what THEY want, give them the training to become successful.

Some people think this sounds like some Pollyanna thing. Maybe so. But guess what? It works 100% of the time when you use it. No other system does that.

The relational approach takes time. But any other way, you're in a deal where you have to continue to sell people over and over and over. I don't have time for that.

Michael's system funnels people to me. I build a relationship with them. Then they can plug into Michael's training during the week and on Saturday.

So it doesn't matter if you have one hour a day or you are full-time. Use Michael's system to build relationships. Plug your people into his trainings. Show them you can help them. Those people are drawn closer to you.

It's Not About Getting Them Out of Their Deal

A lot of people are married to their company. Ask them to switch? You may as well ask them to cheat on their spouse.

MLM companies come and go. When you help & spend time with someone, maybe they don't join your business. But a year down the road, out of the blue, they call and say, "You know what? I don't know really what company you're in, but I want to join YOU."

And sometimes, they bring a bunch of people with them.

So develop those relationships. Help people. Fill your pipeline. People will come to you when the timing is right.

I've had people on the training for a year or two, off and on, then all of a sudden, boom. The phone rings: "All right. It's time for me to join you. What company are you in?"

You build trust and loyalty. People see you as a leader. You won't be rich tomorrow, but you'll have a business that will last forever.

To succeed in marketing anything, differentiate yourself from the crowd. Otherwise, you lose. It's automatic. You lose. But when you're different, you're over here. All your competitors are in a different place. Presto! No competition. You're all by yourself.

People say, "Wow! What's THIS guy doing?" They're drawn to you. They see you're successful, and they want to learn your secrets.

Learn About Personalities

The Color to Success training is essential to a lasting business. It's crucial to develop your own list, your own leads. When you buy leads, those names are sold to a lot of different people. But when people respond to YOUR ad, they have joined YOUR list. You can follow up with them.

Nobody goes online wondering, "Oh, man. What can I buy today?" They visit a website several times before they buy. You need to capture their contact information, so you can email them over and over and over. You can start an email relationship, then continue on the phone.

How? Color to Success teaches you to spot a person's personality type within 2 minutes of talking to them. You learn how to peak their interest, how to build a relationship.

That prospect may be highly technical. Certain questions and keywords you learn in the Color to Success will tell you that. They'll want more information before they ever consider a decision.

Or maybe that person wants to know, "How can I make money tomorrow?" Different approach. Learn it on the CD. Ask a few simple questions on the phone to understand the personality.

When you cold call, you're behind the 8-ball. You're desperate. So instead, develop your own leads and come from a point of service.

Offer a free e-book or some other free information. Call to make sure they were able to download it. Ask the questions you hear on the CD to determine personality. Build a relationship. You'll draw people to you, attract them. They'll want to do business with you.

Who Do YOU Do Business With?

I'll bet you do business with people you know, people you like, people you trust. You usually don't do business with someone who calls out of the blue, who you never heard of.

A major league pitcher throws the ball toward the batter at 90-100 miles an hour. When you cold call, YOU are that pitcher. And when the batter sees a ball coming at her at 90-100 mph, what does she do?

Oh, yes! She's outta there! She's off that phone like a shot. THAT is a cold call. It doesn't work. And even if YOU can do it successfully, you'll NEVER duplicate yourself. You can't build.

It's like spamming by phone. You want to be in the position that you are not calling from this point of desperation.

What works is relationships. That is what you'll learn from Color to Success.

If you don't understand relationships, you will struggle. For lifetime network marketing success, focus on relationship-building. Then you develop lifelong customers and business partners.

Anything Is Possible In Life, If You Make It Happen

We have been married for 43 years and have 4 beautiful daughters and son-in-laws and 13 wonderful grandchildren. We live in Omaha, NE. We started in network marketing in the mid 1970s. We always believed we would find success, but we struggled for a lot of years.

Charlie worked in a factory until retirement. I taught preschool. We also were Foster Parents to a total of 8 foster children which was very rewarding. We knew we both liked helping people and that is why we never gave on building a future network marketing.

Mentoring for Free started helping Charlie & me from the first day we talked to Michael Dlouhy. I downloaded the free "Success in 10 Steps" ebook. We read it together to find answers why we had worked so long and had so little success in network marketing.

That is where we learned about policies & procedures from Michael and got some "aha" moments and knew it wasn't our fault. We realized we weren't in a "Five pillars" company. We got on the MFF training calls and felt like we had an extra big family with the other people on the calls. These are Free calls and also recorded if you miss one, but you can always find answers to your questions. I don't know how Michael does it, but he is like the energizer bunny and a big teddy bear all wrapped up in one person.

We get very good, qualified leads by giving away the ebook. I like to talk to people when I am out and about. We also use drop cards and bulletin boards. We have met some nice people through MFF. If we can help change even one person's life to not go through years of frustration like we did, it's all worthwhile. And if they pass their success on to another person; wow, that is what it is all about. People caring about other people.

Anything is possible in life, if you make it happen.
